In the process of making silicone molds, air bubbles trouble many people. They not only damage the delicate surface texture of the mold, leading to imperfections in the final product's appearance, but also weaken the mold's mechanical properties, affecting its service life.To solve this problem,it is necessary to find effective methods and pay close attention to operational details.
Firstly, raw material selection is key.High-quality,high-fluidity raw materials should be chosen,as poor fluidity can easily trap air during mixing, increasing the risk of bubble formation.Additionally, silicone should be stored in a suitable environment to avoid deterioration caused by high temperature and humidity.
Mixed silicone is a major hotspot for bubble formation. After uniformly mixing A and B silicone in the correct proportions,it should be immediately treated with a vacuum degassing machine to ensure that air is thoroughly extracted from the silicone.
Precise operation is crucial for minimizing bubbles.Mixing is one of the primary stages where bubbles can form.During mixing, clean tools should be used, stirring slowly in the same direction to avoid trapping air.The stirring speed should not be too fast, and the mixing time should be controlled to about 3 minutes to ensure thorough and uniform blending of A and B components. After mixing, let the silicone rest for 5–10 minutes to allow bubbles to naturally rise and escape.

For molds with complex structures or larger sizes,a layered pouring technique can effectively reduce bubble formation.Start by slowly pouring a small amount of silicone onto the master mold surface, with a thickness of 1–2 mm,ensuring that the silicone covers all texture details. After the silicone begins to cure, pour the remaining silicone in layers, with each layer controlled to a thickness of 3–5 mm.This method prevents air from being trapped due to excessive impact during pouring and provides sufficient time for bubbles to escape.
Curing temperature and time are critical factors affecting bubble removal. For room temperature curing (20–25°C),it typically takes 4–8 hours. If accelerated curing is needed, heating at 80°C for 2 hours can be applied. However,it is important to avoid excessively high curing temperatures,as this can cause silicone aging and generate secondary bubbles.Additionally, sufficient curing time must be ensured to prevent bubbles from being trapped due to overly rapid curing.
