"One Little Knowledge about Silicone Rubber"
Q: What are the main differences between compression molding and LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber) injection molding in terms of cycle time and product consistency?
A: Compression molding typically involves manually placing pre-measured solid silicone material into an open, heated mold cavity, then closing the mold to shape and cure the part. This process is slower, with longer cycle times (often 3–10 minutes depending on part thickness) and slightly higher variability due to manual material handling.
In contrast, LSR injection molding uses a fully automated system that mixes two-part liquid silicone and injects it directly into a closed mold under precise temperature and pressure control. This allows for much shorter cycle times (as fast as 30–90 seconds) and excellent part-to-part consistency. While compression molding is better for small-batch or large parts with simple geometries, LSR injection molding is preferred for high-volume, precision applications such as baby products, medical components, and automotive seals.
