HCR grades with higher durometer (60–80 Shore A) perform better under compression and mechanical stress, while LSR grades are ideal for flexible, precision-molded gaskets with excellent temperature stability.

 

2.Curing and Crosslinking: The curing method (peroxide vs. platinum catalyst) affects heat resistance and compression set. Platinum-cured silicone offers superior thermal and aging resistance, making it ideal for automotive or aerospace sealing applications.

 

3.Filler and Additives: Reinforcing fillers like silica increase tensile strength and tear resistance. Special additives can improve oil, flame, or chemical resistance depending on the operating environment.

 

4.Manufacturing Process:

  • Compression molding is cost-effective for large or thick gaskets.
  • LSR injection molding ensures tighter tolerances for small or intricate seals.
  • Overmolding can bond silicone directly to metal or plastic components for integrated sealing solutions.

 

5.Temperature & Pressure Range: Standard silicone gaskets can handle –60 °C to +230 °C, while specialized formulations can withstand up to +300 °C. Under high pressure, gasket geometry and compression ratio must be carefully designed to prevent extrusion or leakage.
